That’s interesting, Lori. I have submitted work (unsolicited) to publishers. Is that similar to what you mean by queries? I certainly had to wait long times for a response, or sometimes received no response at all. But this was a long time ago. Before the advent of the computer age! Oh dear. Now that’s me showing my age! :)

Yes, that’s exactly what a query letter is. In this context I was referring more to novel queries, but the principles – and the results – are essentially the same. I actually also submitted some paper queries back in the day – wasn’t really that long ago, was it? Merely a couple of decades ;)
