Hello and welcome! I’m writer Lori Schafer, and I’d like to thank you for visiting my author website. Here you will find my blog, links to my published work, information about my forthcoming projects, and, if I’m feeling very inspired, the occasional photo of me.

Headshot Arches

Is it just me, or do I have kind of a Mona Lisa thing going on here?

I’m a very eclectic writer, by which I mean I’m all over the place. My first three novels – Just the Three of Us: An Erotic Romantic Comedy for the Commitment-Challenged and its two-part sequel The Other Three of Usare humorous and genre-bending amalgamations of romance, erotica and women’s fiction. But I write memoir, too, when the mood strikes; this is how On Hearing of My Mother’s Death Six Years After It Happened, a book commemorating my adolescent experience of my mother’s mental illness, was born. I am also currently assembling a series on cash flow management entitled Managing Cash When You Haven’t Got Any: Practical Cash Flow Strategies for Small Business. This realistic, down-to-earth guide on the week-to-week issues small businesses face in managing cash is drawn from years of hands-on experience in my former life as a bookkeeper and an accountant.

The most important project I have on my plate right now is my nonfiction book, It’s the Iron: How My Iron Deficiency Anemia was Misdiagnosed as Arthritis, and Why Your Depression, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Pain and Fatigue Might Be Low Iron, Too. I’m incredibly passionate about this project and have been working at it virtually non-stop for the last several months. It’s the Iron will be the first book to uncover a major public health issue that affects many millions, and I simply cannot wait to finish it and see it released. You can obtain a free preview of this important work on InstaFreebie, and feel free to drop me a line to let me know what you think – I welcome your feedback.

I’ve had a ton of short work published in a wide variety of print and online venues, so if you enjoy flash fiction, short stories, and essays, please check out my publications page, where you’ll find links and a complete list of my credits. In addition, I’ve published selected works as eBooks on Amazon, ITunes, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Smashwords, and Lulu, and I hope you’ll download whatever strikes your fancy. For a limited time, I am offering selected works for free on InstaFreebie; you can find a complete list of available titles on my Free Books page.

I call my blog “Short Subjects I Feel Like Writing About” for good reason, because this is my place where anything goes. I generally post links when I have something published, along with commentary on the piece, and lately I’ve been focused on health because I’m buried up to my aching neck in research. But I also post essays on a host of other subjects, everything from ruminations on popular culture to interpretive book reviews to articles on writing and publishing. In addition to my blog, I publish two newsletters – one for nonfiction, and another for my erotic books – to which you may subscribe if you’d like to receive special offers and updates.

I’m very active on social media, and I’d love it if you’d connect with me in the venue of your choice:

    Hi, Lori!

I am writing to thank you for liking my post on health and fitness fun. As a former men’s magazine and paperback novel editor, I was curious about your ‘humorous erotic’ items. In my experience, those were two elements which did not exist in the same story. I wondered if that was possibly because I was selling to men. Are you aware of the demographic breakdown of your readers. Possibly what you are writing appeals more to women than men.

    Cheers,

    Tony

Interesting. Thanks very much for this. Maybe the millennials are more different than I thought. My magazines and books were in the 60’s. Have a great day!
