… because they tend to wander off to find food on their own.
This puts me totally out of order in my posting, but I was so excited I couldn’t help myself:
This furry fella doesn’t seem at all perturbed by the large crowd gathered around watching him stroll up the middle of the roadway in search of lunch.
Nice side view of the bison as it turns back towards the cameraperson (me!) to continue chomping on the grass by the side of the road.

When he wants to cross the road, he will. You (and more than a few other gawkers) were mighty close to all of that might!

No kidding, right? All over the Yellowstone Park you see signs reading “Do Not Approach Wildlife” and “Bison are Dangerous – Stay 25 Yards Away.” But as soon as there’s a good picture opportunity, all the morons with cameras (including me!) forget all about being cautious. How very human! ;)

Yes!! I experienced same in Teton Park just a few weeks ago. I kept a small car between me and the herd, but others were less cautious. As they say, when in peril from a wild animal, you just have to run the fastest.

I was just in Teton yesterday! It’s hard to imagine those calm, sedate animals charging, but of course, sometimes they do. And it’s not as if you can predict what might set a creature like that off – being stared at, perhaps, or having its photo taken over and over. I definitely did consider what I would do if he made a sudden move. Jumping behind a car was number one on my list – I have no confidence in my ability to run the fastest. ;)

Ooh, your pictures are about a hundred times prettier than mine, Jann! I’m just going to refer people to you when they want to see what Grand Teton really looks like! :)

High praise, Lori, thanks! You still have one big advantage over me: You’re there. I’m not. Enjoy it!

Hehe! Reminds me of cows and even buffaloes walking down Mumbai roads in my childhood! I was convinced they were going to chase me all the way home! :))
